Hi Guys

Hanno has been reminding us to use the attach file Paper Clip Icon so photos don't get lost.

Well here is an example, posted a link last fall showing a video of London VE Day which had a HUP possibly one of the CBC recording units. Just went back to look at it and this is all you see

YouTube Sorry.png

Fortunately I did save screen shots if the key images on the video.

HUP London VE Day.jpgHUP London VE Day 1.jpeg

So save those photos the CLOUD blows away.

Cheers Phil

PS Thanks Hanno for reminding us.

Found the attached when doing a 'trawl' though the NZ National Archives site this afternoon!
Taken on the day that the NZ troops entered Trieste in May, 1945.

Looks like a Ford CMP with a No.11 cab made it through the war in Italy!

Ref: DA-08388
New Zealand Infantry men dismounting from their trucks at the Albergo Excelsior, a hotel in Trieste, Italy. Photographed by George Kaye on the 4th of May 1945. NZ National Archives Collection.

Cheers,

Default Unusual vehicle

The vehicle on the right of the pic above looks like an Australian Ford-Marmon Herrington Artillery Tractor No 3 or 3A, but it has a hard cab which I have not seen before. Any comments?

Thank you so much Hanno!!!

My 76 year old eyes are not that good anymore as well the photo was a bit out of focus.

I came to the same conclusion but was having trouble finding a good photo of a Dodge with the roof hatch (they apparently came with and without the hatch).

I will have to go with this one.

Default in the background

sourced from facebook 'WW2 Radio'
no details barring the date, 1943.
Photos : Myron Davis - LIFE Collections.

its obviously hot so the troops aren't wearing much uniform...but the slouch hats and ABC (Australian Broad casting ?) point towards them being Diggers.

That's a perfect example of CMPs in the background, well found! They look like Australian F60Ls.

Smile From the Holgate Archives II

Those of you on FB may have already seen this.
Family Holidays on the NSW South Coast, Tathra, 1949.
Those that know Tathra and the famous Wharf may find it interesting. But for those of us that like our CMP's skip to around the 4 minute mark.

Default Wealth of CMP photos of are to be found in a web site dedicated to SAAF.

Wealth of CMP photos of are to be found in a web site dedicated to SAAF. I found them through a link that was published on the HMVF (Historic Military Vehicle Forum) the thread link is http://hmvf.co.uk/topic/39543-south-...comment-441972

The first link is to “These photographs originate from the private collection of Cpl. Ralph Harding. He was an aircraft mechanic attached to SAAF squadrons doing service in North Africa and Italy during WW2. Thanks to his grand son Kevin Smith who did the scanning and kindly made available these photographs to be published here.

Please respect the copy rights of these photographs and contact me to obtain the necessary permission if you want to duplicate some of this material in other web sites or printed matter.

Thanks

But there are more photos albums http://biltongbru.wixsite.com/ww2-sa...e/photo-albums

My thanks to the people who took the time to share these photos and histories on the web. Snap shots like these are so often seen as just junk.

Cheers Phil

Default Flood transportation in Sherbrooke, Que

This was posted on a FB page of historic photos from the Eastern Townships. No further details, except the train trestle in the background was once owned by the Quebec Central Railway over Wellington Street South.

Hello All,

I was watching a non-CMP related video The Truck That Invented An Industry at the 5:11 minute mark; and what crops up on the screen ? A very damp looking CMP Holmes Wrecker. Accessed 25th November 2020 from https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pi6Q377Hh08

Kind regards

I suggest 3 ton class rather than 15 cwt. I base this on the tyres appearing to be more likely 20" than 16" (matching the truck ahead) and the bridge class 8 being typical of 3 ton rather than the 5 which would be typical of a C15A.

http://www.mapleleafup.net/forums/showthread.php?t=6062
The actual bridge class of a 3 ton vehicle could vary depending if it was mainly an empty box (e.g. a dental office) or crammed with metal bits (signals construction).

Grant.

Any idea what the 3-digit stencil, top centre of the tarp means? Looks like ‘C44’.

I have never noticed that Type/Location for markings before.

I don't have any significant knowledge of markings but wonder if the marking is 044 and if it might match the last three of the truck's census number to discourage "borrowing" of the tarp? Or, to help drivers, loaders and others identify a particular truck from the front? Very much a guess...

Grant, Keith was referring to the pic posted by Ollie Higgins (hence the quote). The C15 4x2 has a distinctive front hub.
