The RAAF still had them in service in the mid 70's! Although gradually replaced by Internationals from the mid 60's I can remember refueling in Townsville and Wagga in particular (might have been other places too) and being served by blitz tankers.

They were fitted with 2 big booms which swung out over the wing so they could fill both sides at the same time or even two aircraft at once. This possibly was a post war modification.

I saw one in northern NSW about 5 years back being used as a water tanker and one in Coober Pedy only last year fitted with a tipper body but the tank was still in the yard. The whole unit was pretty buggered. The Bush Fire Brigade had a number of them as water tankers.

There were "lots" around and I think a concerted effort might find one if you were that keen. One of our club members has a 6x6 blitz (with a GS body) which I suspect may have been a former tanker.
