Keith,

As far as I can see, your C8GS is from the first contract, which was in 1944. If you think that it should have had a wooden body, it could easily have been swapped during overhaul, or sometime since. I think that the details on your rebuild plate mean as follows;
MTRS ; Mechanical Transport Repair Scheme
B385 ; was an Army Auxillary Workshop, which was actually contractors who repaired and overhauled for the government, usually garages and others in the motor trades. have never found the list of who they were, despite trying REME Museum, reckon the Public Records Office is the only chance of finding out.

nothing on the break parts.... still take a while to stop.

keith

the only thing i know is that....
the first bodies were of wood and then steel latter on, i bet your body was switched when it was rebuilt.

my morris was rebuilt in 52 from what i know it was for korea, just never sent.

most of the GS types were sent to denmark where they were given to the daish military who promply traded them in for dodges and crushed the morrises.

most of the morrises that survived were late run compressor trucks.
i have seen many compresor, or prior compresor trucks surviving compaired to few GS trucks. you may want to see if your truck was at one time a compresor truck.
again this may or may not be true.

again still need break parts

Smile Morris c8 gs

Thanks for the info. The metal body is the original one to the truck. the doors are of the later type as well haveing the center of the door is pressed out to keep it from bending unlike the the first lot that were flat and had a wooden frame. The later ones had an all metal frame. Most of the GS Morris trucks were used by farmers for the 4x4 that they had and by Garage owners. My Morris was used by a logger to sell his logs hence the front of the GS body was bent where he threw the logs in.
I have never seen a war time photo of one yet in use.
