Here are two photos of the horn on Llyods' Ford Quad here in Gympie Australia. This vehicle is very original so this will be the one you need.

Default horn

I took apart many 11 and 12 cab fords, and they all had that long horn.
That is the horn used on early fords (Canadian) Maybe other forum members can confirm that.
The short one was used on 13 cab fords, ford lynx 1&2, GM FOX, and maybe more.

Stefan

The long one Eric, you need a "long horn" Sparton, Ford Canada
(CMP)part no. 81C-13833, (old design cab). Part number of the
later "short projector" horn is C29Q-13833 (new design cab).

Default Image of long horn

For an image of a long horn generally similar to the one illustrated above see e-bay item 350022576974. I can't tell you whether your idea of "working" and "good value" match the seller's.

Default "Good" price - difficult to answer

Defining a "reasonable price" is very hard to do for many reasons.
1. Do you need it now? next week? within a year?
2. Is your objective to have a "perfect" horn, one that looks fine but doesn't work or one that works but looks a bit rough?
3. How many of the item are available (not just on e-bay). For example I don't remember seeing many of the long horn, but you could take an easily available working short/Chev horn and combine it with a long housing from a not working horn to make a working long horn. At least, I think you can, I haven't done it.
4. How much money do you have available for the project. Jay Leno of the "Tonight Show" has enough money to hire several full time staff to look after his collection. Although Bob and Rob give great help with my truck they expect (reasonably) that I give them an equal amount of help in return.
5. You can search the "vintage parts" section of e-bay motors for completed listings using the phrase "Chevy horn" to see what similar horns have sold for. You will have to screen out the unreasonably high bids from people who get auction fever and just have to have the thing right now. Also look at listings that didn't get any bids. This will give an idea of what people thought was too much. Using Chev distributors as an example, I have seen "working" examples sell for 99 cents and others that look similar sell for 50 dollars. I have also seen items sell at what I though was a "too high" price and an hour later seen a similar item fail to get any bids at a much 10% of the first price. I can't explain why this happens.

On edit: one more caution.
6. If the part can be advertised as fitting a Corvette (car, not ship) the buyer will think it is worth at least twice as much as a functionally identical part that is advertised as Chevrloet. I don't know the Ford equivalent but I' sure it exists.

Default Bonjour Eric, Truck Horns in uk

I have a 1944 F60S 13 cab and it was missing a horn. Over the years I have watched Milweb and Ebay and searched by various search names.
Ford Canada,CMP Truck, Truck Horn, Horn 6v and Horn 12v.
Finally after about 3 years I saw a LONG horn as per the picture that Stefan was able to post a while ago. The Asking bids on Ebay were by my estimate not to high, The description from the seller was a picture and a very short text, Along lines of Old Truck / car horn, Voltage Unknown, not working and a starting pice about 10 CDN Dollars [5 GBP].I BID ONCE ONLY at 40 dollars 20 GBP. Topped the best bid and won it somewhere around 15 CDN, Plus postage.
Once the package arrived, I was quiet prepared to find a total basket case inside the horn shell. on dismantaling the horn rear cover I could see a that the original wires had worn thru the insulation. I re insulated the wires, tightened up all the connectors and after attaching carefully to a 12v supply was able to get a feeble croak from the Diaphragm. Adjusted the lock nut and points and tried again, nearly blew my ear drums out, Nice deep tone.
I see from the comments on this post that I should have a Short Horn on my 1944 truck. OK maybe one day, but for now this one sounds great and does not look out of place.
I hope the one you bought works just as well for you but dont forget to check the wires inside the cover and of course make a good earth connection onto the chassis frame to complete the circuit.
After all if its LOUD enough to frighten jaywalkers it saves scraping them off the fenders later .
Regards Stephen
