The following received during the night:

Actually we don't see any traces of ns1/ns2.dnsrouter.com left in the zone files. What is possible is that the DNS zones are cached where you're running them through, in which case it depends on when their cache expires (usually within a few hours).
The good sign is that the host has totally corrected the original problem at their end, but the bad news is that it may be hanging in one of the relay routers in the system due to erroneous information having been dumped on the system by the initial 'relapse'. If so, it may clear itself today, but if not, I may have to force a change in the NS IPs at the source (no, don't ask me to explain).

I'll keep an eyeball on it today and YOU keep feeding me trouble reports - just ensure you have flushed YOUR cache before you draw up a fresh page.

Default Is it at my end or has MLU been of line a lot recently

Hi All

I suspect the problem may be at my end (local dsl provider is in financial problems) or has MLU been going on and off line a lot lately? Example has it been down for several hours today?

Cheers Phil

Phil,

Not as far as I know. I'm set up to receive error messages whenever the Forum goes down, and I've had none for several days. Having said that, I WAS out for several hours this morning, but Sally was here and she noticed no trouble either, in either email reception or the Forum itself.

Keep me posted, though...

Jif

G'day Geoff

Now that i'm a member of this site, i try to access it a lot more often. I don't know if it's a problem at my end or not, but it seems that the only time i can access the site is at night (over here). If i try in the morning or during the day, the page is not to be found, no matter how many times i refresh it.

I wonder if that's a peak time for action on the forums here?

Cheers
Toby

Toby, try http://orbit.dnsrouter.com/~mlu/forums/ for easier access. Something's screwed up with either the MAPLELEAFUP.ORG domain name or the domain server itself at odd times. I'm working to resolve the situation, but it's like herding cats...

Default DNS Issues

Hi Geoff,

I dropped a shortcut to my hosts file onto my XP desktop and if I had problems where the domain couldn't be resolved, I'd unrem the line I've put in there with the domain and it's IP address and resave it and away I'd go with hardly any problems. About a month ago I just left it in my hosts file I was having so much DNS resolution failures and I've had a great run. Only rem'med it 2-3 days ago and good first day but then next day no dice 'page cannot be displayed blah blah' so I'm back using my hosts file.

In my experience the 'outage' is 98% a DNS issue, not a server or site issue. I learned some more about DNS recently on a job so I'll dig that stuff out and run some checks and PM you anything interesting.

Regards

Alex
