The Ds on most CMPs are like this - the horizontally mounted exceptions are the Chevrolet 8cwt and 15cwt 4X2 ranges. From the C15A up and all Fords had them mounted vertically.

Nice find though. What's that strange white powdery stuff I wonder?:
