I thought that number was probably British. It looks like a Girling part with the GB prefix. I am going through an old Girling catalogue at present to see if it fits other applications, just found it, an obscure make of bitumen transporter made in the late 1940's.....at least that proves it to be a Girling part, if that is of any help at all.
