Jordan if the 55873 on the side is its WD No. then I can tell you that it was manufactured by Ford Canada as a MkI*, one of 1,421, with the contract completed in June 1944 with WD No. 57059. You often see the MkI* that have survived the early part of the war with the crew kit locker stowed across the front like that, gives extra room in the rear and some protection in the front if you fill it with sand! Many MMG Carriers had this configuration too.
