Unfortunately, the only two locations for the S/N are the plates as mentioned by Terry. There is no stamping on the frame. Do you have any evidence of the CFR for that jeep? The CFR can be cross-referenced to the S/N.

I seem to remember someone restoring an M38 several years ago and they found the cfr number stamped on the left frame rail between the grille and bumper. It’s worth a look. You may be able to use the number as the serial number, the ministry probably wouldn’t even question it.

The CFRs were not stamped onto the frame in the late 60s/early 70s. That seems to have been a trait from the late 50s or very early 60s.
Best bet is, as someone else mentioned, if there ie evidence of the CFR on the dash, that can be used to get the serial number. But otherwise, it was either the small plate behind the passenger seat on the wheelwell, or the serial number on the data plate on the dash behind the chicken bar. |
