Hmmmph....balmy/clammy-5? We call that springtime in these parts. It's going to -29 tonight with a gentle 15km breeze that is supposed to make it feel like -40. But thats OK, cause a car will only go to the -29...it'll just get there quicker.

There is no substitute for true cold.....when you reach for the 50 cal charging handle and it snaps in your hand. Or when the fuel pumps on the older cars, being slightly external to the block, gum up and freeze with condensation. You tow them inside for an hour until you hear the snap of the diaphragm spring kicking in, then you do it all over again.

The arctic is another story. The air is dense, and when the snow or ice cracks, it echoes.

Rob , you are the clear winner here experience wise . My personal record is -29 C sleeping in a snow trench while on exercise . That was in 1988 . I was young and stupid . My mates were in a 10 man tent with two Coleman stoves running and i decided to show them . It was so cold the trees cracked open and it sounded like gun fire . I am wiser now .

Funny, winner is not really a word I would use for living in hell.

Was just out plugging in the car so I can go to work in an hour. Turns out it only hit -27 last night, so what am I whining about?

If it gets much colder than this I am going to put away my runners and go to some form of boot.

Morning commute, 6 December makes a family member happy for a car vs taking the sled into work. (By ‘sled’ I mean snowmobile.)

Where was that at? Environment Canada shows lows of -2 and daytime temps of around 5 or 6.

We are heading back to highs of single negative digits ion a few days. That will be nice. Even nicer is the end of next week I am heading back to Mexico for a week of sun and pampering.

Default MKI headlight

And now are we going to discuss the weather in Mexico ? I would really really hate that and it would make me really really jealous .

Perhaps I will start a new thread when I am in Mexico. None of this has much to do with a mk1 headlight.

I was just pointing out that the humidex plays a huge role in winter as it does in summer after upper -30c (I seem to recall it hoovering around -38/39) a return to a high humid -5c felt actually worse. In the Arctic I worked at -40c and higher, dress properly and you are fine.
