The FWD HAR-1 was bought by the Wheels of Liberation Collection in New Oxford, Pennsylvania, USA.
Photo shows the FWD on a recent outing. 022642DA-207C-4440-933F-B3BA0A4BC0F7.jpeg DC64A6F5-295E-414F-8A73-0FB901D81823.jpg 60EF03C1-3923-4FA9-8191-8886DAF3C6C2.jpg AFA1BC62-AA98-4188-883D-BA410B20AB7E.jpg

I wonder how the HAR-1 was able to receive an MCH permit for export from Australia. I'm not aware of two others held in public collections in Australia, which is the basic criteria for an MCH Permit for permanent export to be granted.

Hi Mike, I'm with you on that one.
I worked on that truck and supplied parts like the two bonnet sides to Glen S to get it restored. In 2009 John Hedges had to ensure that he brought the Ford ute back to OZ when he did the Lang K. trip to Normandy and not to sell it overseas. Is it too late to ask how they got the permit to export? I reckon they just snuck it out of the country. To many of our heritage items are snuck out. About 3 years ago a traction engine was made to return to Australia as the correct permits had not been issued. Regards Rick.

Same here. Two years ago the only flying Catalina in the Netherlands was sold to - you guessed it - the USA. The association had run into technical and financial problems which eventually led to them having to sell it. Sadly an export permit was granted by the government. One of the reasons which was given was that it wasn't a Catalina which was operated by the Netherlands Armed Forces. At the same time the Dutch government intervened in and funded some art deals. I guess it all boils down to what one defines as "cultural heritage".
Oh well, the Catalina is in very good hands now and under transformation to her orginal configuration - see http://americanaeroservices.com/pby5...459grphc2.html 26170870_1478447005542483_6184750345106851267_o.jpg
