Default 'Tractor, 4x2, Light, 10'0" WB, Type Q2'

Commer Q2 Tractor with a Hawker Tempest on a Queen Mary trailer during the Victory parade in London, 8th june 1946.

This is a Militarised Superpoise, officially known as 'Tractor, 4x2, Light, 10'0" WB, Type Q2', also referred to (by RAF) as '4-ton tractor'. Produced in 1945, chiefly for towing 'Queen Mary' aircraft-transporter semi-trailers.

There is only one known survivor of this type of Tractor. It was last seen for sale in the Netherlands ca. 2016 and has since disappeared off the radar.

Looking back through some of these Commer posts, this is another Commer that completely disappeared. I'm now wondering if anyone knows where it is now or has any upates?

It just surprises me Hanno that vehicles such as this and in its very good condition just seem to drop off the radar.

I agree Kevin. This Commer was in the Budge Collection - see photo below from umpteen years back - and then somehow ended up in a private collection in the town of Zevenhuizen, the Netherlands. It was taken out to an event once or twice where Alex and I spotted it.

It only came to light when the owner died and it was sold off to an unknown buyer, reportedly in the UK. Most likely, it now sits in someone's barn for the next few decades. It may pop up again.

I find this is the case with many vehicles, they are collected and stored, rather than displayed at events or museums. Even museums have huge collections they cannot display, and the same is true for private collections. I can but hope these sort of gems are dry stored, rather than rotting away in a field somewhere.

We have a "where are they now?" thread, sometimes we are able to keep track of vehicles, more often than not they disappear from the radar altogether.

I have attached photos of an Ford F30 that was restored in the early 1980's by John Jackson from Essex / Suffolk area. He told me at the time that it was one of the earliest CMP's still in existance in the UK, dating from about 1940. Could it be one of those Fords constructed at the Southampton factory, which was destroyed on 30th November 1940?

I know of a few wartime vehicles even locally to us that have simply disappeared in the last few years. Advertised for sale and bought up yet not seen at all at events or runs.

It is frustrating especially when the vehicles are rare and would cause a lot of interest at shows.
