The Amsterdam image bank has quite number of pictures of the liberation of our capital, but also of other towns in the Netherlands:

They are traditional Dutch headdress called oorijzer or ear-irons, which varied in material and size per town or region. The were adorned by a lace cap.

Back in those days women would not go outside except when fully dressed up in traditional clothes.
