This box is the spare valve box for the Larkspur era SR C12 so certainly post war. The set was initially supplied with a vibrator supply but a later transistorized unit was provided. That would account for the handwritten "transistor" where the vibrator would have been.

Are the transistorised vibrators still available? That would solve an ongoing problem with period car radios.

The vibrator wasn't transistorized, the whole power supply was.

There are drop in solid state replacements available for common vibrators.
