That is what springs to mind, indeed: T28/M38 Wolfhound 6x6 Armored Car.

There's also the 'Wolf' 8x8 heavy armoured car, which was a Canadian development - but it was an 8x8, and only one was built.

How so many bearings ended up in Europe? Maybe just offloading unneeded spares as MDAP supplies after WW2....
