The black square with the 40 is only for Division HQ, so you want the red square with the 51 on the right side back and front and the Divisional sign on the left, and the red diamond on the sides of the turret.

That was also very helpful, I have never seen that first photo passing the reviewing stand, any idea where that was and what reg # of the first tank in line is? I can't make it out.

The only unanswered question is, with the amount of stowage on the rear of the M5A1....where do the symbols go on the rear? Does anyone have a rear view of an M5A1 in Canadian service?

For markings details, I find Modelling and Wargaming painting Guides, they're very particular about getting details like that correct
