I'm happy to report it got a good run last weekend. No leaks (though I did have a moment of pause when I saw some rainwater that had collected in the bowls) and decent cooling despite the 34C temperature.

Do you mean the socket thing in the first pic? If so, it's one of four cast brass mounts for the Bren MG post as factory equipped on Mk.1 Carriers.
