I remember restoring my carrier years ago and when it was all finished I then came across those shroud pieces and looked at the work involved to try and fit them in there. I decided to leave them out as I wasn't up to the challenge of trying to disasemble everything again to get it installed. Then for it's first parade the radiator decided to blow up on me! (Radiator was plugged causing poor circulation!).Must have been a sign as I had to tow the carrier home and take everything apart again to change the radiator.Made sure the shrouds went in that time!
Regards,Derk

I installed an 8BA (actually an 8RT)engine into my carrier, so due to the different fan placement, left the shrouds out. The vehicle would overheat after 4 minutes of run time. I sent the rad for cleaning, and used several containers of CLR into my block to try and remove some of the scaling. Re-assembled and it was not that much better. So, using the originals as templates, I made the same thing except with allowance for the new fan position. It made all the difference in the world, and you could tell sitting in the driver's seat that the airflow was many times what I was getting with no shroud.
Engine still runs on the hot side, but I have never had it overheat since. Eventually I will install one of my TL engines, and use the original shrouds, but I'm pretty sure I'll miss the extra 15 hp of the 8BA engine. Last edited by rob love; 03-05-16 at 02:21. |

I have to say I always wondered how much difference the shroud would make but it seems quite a bit !

Do you still need the dimensions. My original shroud is currently off the carrier so let me know if you still need them and I will measure it up and send them to you Rick |

Rick that would be great, I am struggling a bit at the minute. And running out of time ! Carrier is due onto the south coast in just over a fortnight
Russ has two lower plates left that are fantastic reproductions... I have this bit already though.
