Do you have an optional for occassional day or week permits? Here in BC a Temporary Operating Permit is $25-$35/day and for vehicles I drive only a couple days a year, I get a TOP.

Default LSVW insurance

Well thank you all for your much appreciated feedback. Today I received some good news. My broker told me Echelon will insure the vehicle as a collector vehicle for $200 a year based on the usual limited use scenarios. At least it's a start. However, before proceeding they want a vehicle appraisal (value must be over $7500), the ownership must be in my name (so I have to complete the transfer into unfit), vehicle has to be certified. Im sure as some of the 2800 LSVW trucks the DND is selling make their way into private hands and we start seeing them on our roads getting insurance will become a lot easier.

I use a company called Hagerty for my M38Cdn. Same as the previous owner did. They seem to be North America wide so they might be worth checking out. My premium is just over $300 for full coverage and comes with roadside assistance. They will also want a value, pictures and a copy of your drivers abstract to prove you're not a liability. And the nice part is that there's no limit on km's per year.

Lant Insurance & Hagerty are now one company in Canada. If you go to;
https://www.lant-ins.ca/?gclid=CIXv5...FQKTaQodRwkMEQ
you will find a "Quick quote" form. There is a "Special Interest 15 to 24 years old" category. I tried a 1993 vehicle valued at $8000 with a 45 year old driver & the result was $252/year.

The truck is on the road! Insured for $152 per year limited use. Includes collision! LOL It needed nothing to certify! All good now.

Great news! What insurance company did you get it through after all?

That is called a Trip Permit in Ontario. I knew a guy who was on welfare and drove his car only a few days a month, and that was how he managed the otherwise big bill for plating the car. I see someone got wise to the scheme, and limits Trip Permits to 2 per year.
