Has the supply of project carriers diminished so much that collectors are obliged start with "blown up" vehicles? (OK, there are some fantastic examples of range hard targets cut and spliced with kilometres of welding wire, and cubic metres of filler, but those are heavy armour.)

I don't believe it is a battlefield relic from the Bastogne area. Most likely an ex-firing range relic polished up with a nice story....

I would take it as spares but that's all.

i think you are wrong about the ad, the seller clearly states it was a relic from the battle of the bulge and by the look of the damage it must have been in the thick of the fighting. a truly remarkable find and an easy resto for a good welder. I know all this to be true because my unicorn told me it was

I would like to have started with that much. There are two carrier projects in England that started out worse. There is a Loyd, project that has started from far worse.
And yes, he deserves a medal!
