Here's an update on my carrier , not much time as work is flat out with holiday makers here in Port . I did find some time to do all the seats two rainy days we had , I took advice from Darrin , Mick and Euan . I used HD foam 1' 1/2 inch thick for back rests with 12mm ply this works well and lets the drivers tool box open , 3 inch for seats and then folded the corners and stapled to the ply base . I'm 6'4 and skinny I still can sit in drivers seat and uses all controls

Rear end is all finished

My NOS mirror turned up the other day . can't believe how good it looks . The paint is very close to my colour

Beautiful work, Dale. Congratulations!

Are you going to put your feet up for a while when finally done and enjoy your efforts for a bit. or has a little voice in the back of your head already started nattering at you about 'a next project'?

David

I had a little bit of spare time over the last couple of days to sandblast tidy up and paint khaki green no 3 on my flare box . I will paint the red white and green on the lid in the next couple of days . Thanks to Euan and Darrin for their photos

PS thanks for your comments David and Lance .. My carrier is at a good stage now as I'm not going backward to go forward , each time I add a part it for good . I have had lots of help from MLU members as I'm not very mechanical minded I hope my post help other Aussie carrier builders . Dale

Today I painted up the three colours on the flare box lid . From Darrins and Euan photos it looks like some where painted with the colour going around the corners of the lid , or flat on top . Dale

Can some-one help me out with what the retaining clip that hold the hand brake cable into position on the hand brake looks like , also the clamp that holds it at it's end to the bracket on the lower hull front . I can't find any info in the parts book . If any one has some spare for sale I'll buy . Dale

Dale, your best bet would be an irrigation supply store or look at radiator hoses for large tractors or prime movers.
Rubber marine exhaust hose comes in 2 1/2" but it is expensive, I just found it on ebay.

Default Water Can Measurement

The measurement should be 160mm to fit the water can you have. They must have had the apprentice boy making that rear tray! If you re-weld the tag on it pays to give it an extra few mm to allow for the rivet on the strap , so it does not wear on the tin.
Nice looking pair of original air cleaners, cheers.

There are variations in the size of the 2 gallon can, especially between Australian manufacturers and again between Australian cans and the Canadian, as I think Euan is suggesting.

I published an article in Army Motors several years back which had a table of size variations. I think KVE might have republished it more recently? (Richard??....).

I don't remember the details of the sizes, but certainly worth looking for a foreign (CDN) can. The one you show is almost certainly an Aust made can - very basic folded handle, cast metal cap (probably not brass) with no provision for a chain keeper, top and bottom pressings the same three shallow depressions, etc etc.

Hi Mike,
Your article was in KVE News no. 15 and 16 ( 2 parts). not been able to get back issues on the new website yet, but will push for it. In the mean time, Dale, I can email these to you. According to a table of details of cans in Mike's article, the cans were 6 inches wide except for the Water can which was 6 3/8" wide. Is the stowage for a water can? If so the stowage is correct.

regards, Richard
