Hello Frank,
Well sort of. Officially it was called "TRUCK, UTILITY, HIGH MOBILITY, 1 1/4 TON, 4 X 4" & referred to in the literature as a RAM. It was built by Chrysler in 1969.

The brown first aid kits are compliant with some European driving rule. Probably German. When I started exploring my VW Jetta, I found the brown box fit perfectly into a hard foam compartment. I have seen white and medium green flip lid boxes too.
I just did a search on epay to see what is posted for VW first aid kit. There are a couple of choices. Right size wrong markings.
