sorry the M-551 has gone away. the 82nd got rid of them around 1994 in preperation to get the AGS (armored gun system). but that program was killed. right now the 82nd gets a platoon of brads, and abrams on call from the 3rd ID to fill out the airlanding armor role. the only thing the 82nd and 101st airborne have for armor is the uparmored hummers with .50s or MK-19s.

the OPFOR in sunny CA now has new M113-BMPs Vismod M-1a1s, and other vismod vehicles M-548s, hummers, and 5-ton trucks, the M-551s are stacked up like wood 4 and 5 tall in the bone yard. a sad end to a combat vet. but thats nothing new in the us with DANGROUS (no gun) armored vehicles.
