Default Asuming you have removed the field windings

Hi Jordan

Assuming that to sand blasted the case you have removed the field windings painting or using another rust preventive should not be a problem. Just remember that the paint will probably act as an insulator, any place you need a contact will need to be clean to bare metal.

Be careful about how thick the paint is as clearance inside starters may be surprisingly tight.

General comment on blasting starters and generators be very careful of what is used "black beauty" is conductive and will cause problems. If you have removed all the wiring and taped or covered the bearing surfaces you just need to really careful to clean all the abrasive away.

Remember that in Chevy CMPs actually had air filters on the generators to reduce the abrasive sand drawn through the generator.

Having given all the cautions, I have successfully clean and blasted and had actually work starts that were half full of water from a ford flat head.

Cheer

Phil
