Many thanks Richard, you are correct Loyd back plates are a pressed steel affaire. I thought I had enough, then on dismantling one actuator simply crumbled to pieces, it was pure aluminum oxide

The expander pictured below was for a military trailer, possibly one of the smaller 2 wheeled one form 60's/70's era, I forget which. It is a standard Girling one and their part number is 64225359 and NATO number MT9/2530-99-827-6257. The studs will be correct length for a pressed steel backplate. Forget what the pull rod thread is but think it was UNF. Slots in expander pistons may not be exactly correct to fit the shoes, but easily dealt with. regards, Richard

Would you believe it! I have found one good expander from my pile of range wreck brake components.
