Over the years there has been a fair amount of discussion about battery boxes, though most as I remember has been about those used on Chevy CMPS of the different patterns. But I believe there has been discussion of the differences.

Who remembers the thread headings on battery boxes?

Those three are the ones I was remembering on the topic of Ford battery boxes there are several more on the topic of Chevy battery boxes.

But as I said in the heading for the big question do they answer your question? I think the answer is no. With Chevy and I understand the Fords the battery boxes that were mounted inside the cab are different from those that are mounted outside of the cab. Which is the type your Dad is working on?

Doing a search of MLU is sometimes difficult for example searching www.mapleleafup.net/forums results in a 180 threads or posts with the terms "battery box" Ford and F15A ( https://www.google.com/search?hl=en&...pe=&as_rights= ) if you go "battery box" Ford or Chevy the number jumps to 398. ( https://www.google.com/search?hl=en&...pe=&as_rights= )

Finding information on MLU is one of those two edge swords things, MLU is the place to look for information on CMPs etc. but at the same time because of the depth and extent of discussion it is difficult to find the bit of information you want.

Hello Phil, Not being the restorer, and at a distance from the project (physically) it is a bit of a chore to get the information and properly explain the question. Checking with Dad, he says it is that this is the exterior battery box, on the right hand side. (The numbers are from the Ford parts book.) b

Those are the ones.

Just to clarify there is the battery holder-my plans, and there is a battery cover. I assumed it is the cover plans you were seeking (including me)

Originals covers, like the holders, are pretty scarce but hopefully someone has one out there to get the dimensions and method of construction from it.

No use just folding up a box about the right dimensions to cover the battery.

Recently obtained a rubber cased 6V battery from a supplier here in Australia- Ariel Batteries. Was very pleased dealing with them. They were able to build it with the positive and negative posts in the correct location and suggested I Leave it dry until closer to needing it, a good idea. Since the photo was taken I repositioned the label to the rear of the case- a bit too in your face I thought!

This is from Ebay. It is for a Jeep. This one, I would say is not quite correct, however it claims to be.
Originally I think they were a std Ford item that became the U.S. quartermaster stores item. They were on Jeeps, Dodges, and were modified to the Australian LP2 Carriers. (two were welded together with a bolt on lid, for the carrier)
I suspect they were the same on the CMPs if not at home in Canada and Europe, at least in Australasia.
As I recall, the originals I have seen had a gap in the corners, and the four pieces at the corners were folded down, and welded at the lower edges.
I wait to see if others agree.

Hi Bill,

Just awaiting a phone call from an owner of an original Ford battery box.

If and when I get the dimensions, metal thickness, and method of construction I will draft it up and post it here for all to use like I did with the battery holder.
The chances of finding a good original one is pretty slim so an accurate replica is the only real way to go.

Thanks Jacques, that will be useful for anyone restoring a truck.
I appreciate the assistance all members have given with my requests. Dad is moving along on the project, doing up "inside" projects right now. (Work on steering box, dash instruments, etc.) Some more questions are in the offing, and I will post them when we get to those parts of the restoration.
