Can some one tell me if this is the way to go ? The old leather seals are worn out with a 1 mm gap around them . I could only get modern seals is this the way to go ? also are these the correct way around

Dale, Does the 1mm gap indicate that there is excessive play in the bearings?

Just the leather has shrunk and dried out , in the old metal seal you can see day light all the way around I don't think it would hold grease and stop dirt . Lynn bearing are ok . Dale

Could the leather be revived if you chucked the entire assembly in a can of Neets Foot Oil, or similar product for leather, and let it sit for a while? David |

Right hand single station has been out for a week detailed painted and back in as of today . There are two bolts that bolt the support to the engine rails which are in ! But I notice there are two holes just inside the backing plate on the floor where the support comes through the hull sides I can't find any info in the books on these two should these have bolts as well if so should the nuts be on the inside and bolts up through the hull floor ? G'day Dale, yep your seals look spot on and mine are doing a good job 3years on. With the bearings I replaced 5 and reused the rest. I put the best of them into the 4 displacement wheels due to the side load when steering. I think small pits in the bearings will be ok well lubed, my worst had probly had a good mm of side play at the centre and are in the rear road wheels. You would have to put the seal carriers on the end of a piece of heavy pipe close to the same OD then a smaller piece on the inside of it and don't be shy with the hammer.

Today I set up my vision shutters lots of work , Thanks to Euan for a lend of his master to make new knobs with the help from Ted and Reg the volunteer machinist from Newman tech college Port Macquarie . Also Matt for the NOS glass , Simon Allen for his very nice glass holders the glass fit was spot on , all the shutters work nice and smoothly . Dale
