Your back couldn't tell the difference in weight between models, perceived weight seems to be more time related. I notice gravity gets stronger year by year.

I agree that gravity has more pull on things these days as in my younger years I lifted a v8 block without the crankshaft and heads on to the back of the old ute today the crankshaft alone is heavy enough
