John,

I'll hazard a guess and say the Formation sign was a kangaroo over a boomerang, so 6th Australian Infantry Division. There have been multiple applications, with a bit of shift between them, but the hump of the back and the remains of the tail and leg are visible, I think.

The Unit sign is significantly more difficult. The all light blue background would indicate engineers. I can't see an upper and lower set of figures, just one set of possibly two figures. Based on that, it would appear to be a pre-1944 unit sign or a post 1944 unit sign of a non-standard unit (non standard units did not employ the upper unit numbers over a lower set of numbers indicating the type of unit).

Any one else care to put their two bobs worth into the discussion to try and nut this one out for John?
