OK: that interesting piece of information about the KW gives it away I think: the Brit sets were 18KW, 100 Volt DC, while the Aust sets were 22KW as below:

-'Trailers 2 wheel, Petrol Electric Generator (Aust) No.2 was used to house searchlight generator (Aust) No.1 (100 Volts DC, 22KW and on 9:00x18 tyres)
-'Trailers 2 wheel, Petrol Electric Generator (Aust), No.2A' was used to house the searchlight PE 22KW, 100 Volt DC (Aust) No.2 or 2A gen set. Tyres were 9:00x18.
-'Trailers 2 wheel, Petrol Electric Generator (Aust), No.5A' was used to house the searchlight PE 22KW, 100 Volt DC (Aust) No.2 or 2A gen set. Tyres were 9:00x18.

There are differences between the construction of the three trailers, but both the 2A and 5A trailers house the same gen set. The plates will make interesting reading if you can get an image or two.

Euan,

Didn't you locate a 240 volt gen set recently as well? I think Keith may have asked me for some info. That one would be better than a 100 Volt DC set anyday!

Then is it '25KVA' rather than '22KW', and its AC not DC?

Haven't found a '22' output connected with a 240 Volt AC gen set in any of the Aust listings (but that's not to say I have found them all, of course!! As I said earlier, the Aust Gen sets are a bit of a nightmare to tie down).
