I spent 3 years worth of weekends helping restore my father-in-laws TBM at War Plane Heritage in Hamilton,Ont. Never did get a ride in it. Too bad it burnt in the hanger a couple of years ago.

There was an Avenger at Wanaka (NZ) this year. It was carrying Australian registration but I understand that it was staying in New Zealand as somebody over there had purchased it.
To see the Avenger flying and also an F4U Corsair being put through its paces were the highlights of the show. There is nothing to compare with the sound of a radial engine. David

I had a fly in Randal MacFarlane's Avenger a few years back (is this the one now in NZ?). Pretty docile old girl but the most interesting thing was how quiet it was in the air - you could almost hold a conversation unlike nearly any other big horsepower military aircraft.

Hi Lang,
Yes I believe That the particular avenger That is now in NZ Was Randy's and before that if my memory serves me Correctly Was Plonky which was based at Wanaka. I was Recently Down In the Hunter Valley and Found one of the Late Steve Searles TBM'S Sitting at Maitland Airport With its wings folded out in the Weather. Cheers Matty Baker Hope You and Bev Are going Fine. |

Thanks Matt,
They really get around - suppose they cost a bit more than the wife's Corolla to own and run. Lang |
