Lynn you are of course correct! My tiny Iphone screen sometimes makes it hard to zoom in on details.

I can't make out any numbers or markings on the carriers at this end - can you ?

Cheers

Phill

No, nothing anywhere, other than the "4" on the tac sign. Does anyone understand or recognise the reference numbers?
Do they direct us to a currently accessable photo archive?

Default Pics of Carriers at Normandy

These three pics were part of a Power point forward to me. The text info of the forward said that it was the Normandy invasion and included the same shot of the location in present time. These were the only three that had carriers in them. Lots of other shots of vehicles and town before and after. If you want the forward PM me you’re email address.

Default Default Pics of Carriers at Normandy (source)

Hi Stephen

The pictures look very familiar and if I am not mistaken they are from After the Battle http://www.afterthebattle.com/ which was also the publisher of Wheels and Tracks magazine edited by Bart Vanderveen.

They have published some really good books.

Cheers Phil

Default LP2A Carriers

The tropical photo of the LP2A carriers with the clipped guards is on the AWM website. It is one of a series of public domain photos (026132 - 126141) of the 39th Battalion's carriers in New Guinea in 1942.

There is also some interesting photos with an American aircraft (026244 - 026249). Apologies for not posting pics, haven't successfully done that yet.

Cheers
Pete

It is a "Carrier, Bren, No2 MkII" The one after which all the others were called Bren Carriers.
The Australian LP1 was derived from its predecessor the Bren MkI. There were only minor differences between the MkI and the MkII Brens.
