Default Temporary C/S

Good point, Rob: The only vehs in 71 Bty with permanent C/S were the gun tractors, the CP (command post), and, I think, 29's (the Battery Commander's) jeep. Most other vehs were borrowed from the Third Herd (3RCHA) for weekend ex's.

(parentheses added for the jargon impaired! )

Cheers! Mike

P.S: Rob: amazing work you're doing on the 105mm C1!!! I bow in admiration and jealousy!

Thanks for the compliment Mike. It is coming along nicely, and it seems every trip to Westbourne finds something new. I was out a couple days ago and found the case for the panoramic sight. I thought I found the brass ends for the cleaning rods, but turns out they are for the 155, as they are too big a diameter to stow in the trails.

There are a couple impossible to find pieces yet, but the list keeps getting shorter.

Default Cleaning Rod ends

Rob: If you want to part with the 155 ends I need several (I think four but will have to check). I have asked a machine shop in Ottawa to estimate the ends in brass and in aluminum but I think they will be prohibitively expensive. Stuart Beeney is also looking for some.

Cheers, Mike

Shoot me a PM on this....I think we can work something out. Unless a 155 falls into my lap in the next while, I am not actively looking for one and these are of no use to me.

To add to the confusion, was command assigned a number "9" on the jeep and if so, was any prefix used eg, A9, B9 etc???
This is the bosses jeep (my future wife) so I was thinking a little artistic license may apply but it would be great if appropriate and accurate.....
Please advise, standing by.

Call sign 9 is for the commanding officer, so in this case it would be fully appropriate.

ie:Q: Are you coming to the mess after work?

A: I don't know, I'll have to ask 9er.

The typical Jeep recce militia regiment would have been organized with one operational squadron and one training squadron. Assuming one geographic area. The Royal Canadian Hussars for example had a squadron in St Hubert and another on Montreal Island, but I believe they were larger than most units.

So 1 Squadron OC, 1 Ops O or Battle Captain, 2 (or 3) Troop Leaders, assorted troop call signs and echelon. The org chart would have allowed for a CO, RSM, RSS staff, maybe an attached medic, etc. But, the reality of most units was neither enough qualified and available pers for each position, not enough roadworthy vehicles, and no real job for the HQ on a squadron exercise.

I forget the exact breakdown of all the callsigns, but the OC would have been Niner, the step up CP Niner Bravo, and the troops as Four One, Four Two, Four Three.
