This becomes a real grey area as we are talking live vs dummy or deact ammo.
But, if you loaded a 20 rd magazine with live or dummy ammo it would be prohibited either way....mags over 5 rds are prohibited
7.62 single MG links on their own are OK up to 5 linked, after that they become a prohibited device because of when they were born...
.30cal, 7.92 etc is OK a mile long....
Stupidity

I was both an FSET Instructor and a member of Western Command for years before I moved to Texas. I made up my own dummy rounds for resale, display and the classroom by simply neck resizing the cases and inserting a new FMJ bullet. Kesselring's in Burlington, Wa. sells FMJ bullets, ostensibly for the 7.62 X 39 cartridge which mike out nicely at .3105" and are perfect for inexpensively reloading both .303 British and 7.7 Arisaka dummy ammo. They also had bushels of 147gr. 7.62mm ball. I left the case undrilled and the spent primer in the pocket for the most realistic dummy ammo. I also used to sell belts with these dummy cartridges by the foot at HACS shows. I was never made aware of any government regulation regarding dummy cartridges...guidelines yes....hard and fast rules, no. Are there currently any rules in Canada regarding which iteration of dummy cartridges is required?
It's very rare for there to be any restrictions on either blank or dummy ammo, either belted or otherwise for display here in Texas. Of the 70 or 80 events I've attended in the last 11 years, the only restriction is, of course, no live ammo. A couple of cities don't allow any weapons, either mounted or dismounted in their parades, but they're in the minority by far.

Cheemo! Derek.
