That Austin sounds like a K9 1 ton truck, they had that size tyres. Built around 1952 on, they used the civilian Loadstar cab with minor alterations such as roof hatch and a flare around the front wings to clear the larger tyres. The late Bob Dimer from WA had one and drove it on the Trackers run up to Alice in 2000. There are a not real common over here, this the only one I have seen. Apart from the roof hatch, gaurds, larger wheels, 4x4 conversion, they also had the standard British FV range airfilter: all else was standard Austin Commercial.
Drove quite well, I liked it a lot, although the chassis was a bit on the light side and had some obvious repair work done on it. This one was missing the actual mud guards. Think Archie Marshall imported them into WA. Rich.
