What engine have they got in that thing to require lifting the centre section of the bonnet like that? Or is it really the sports car model with the fold back aero screen?

Default Modified Bonnet

Hi all - Euan was correct, modification was for the radiator cap. Apart from that, standard Blitz motor. I am trying to track down why it is this colour. The previous owner is dead and if this was a restoration it would have been done many years ago. I am wondering whether this truck saw desert service.

Of interest, the guy I obtained this Blitz from has just located a 4WD Austin truck painted in the same colour. This Austin has a roof hatch, 900x20 singles, and flared mudguards. I will be interested in the provenance and images of this truck.

Hi Bob,

That Austin sounds like a K9 1 ton truck, they had that size tyres. Built around 1952 on, they used the civilian Loadstar cab with minor alterations such as roof hatch and a flare around the front wings to clear the larger tyres. The late Bob Dimer from WA had one and drove it on the Trackers run up to Alice in 2000.

See this link for a photo of the radio bodied version of a K9

There are a not real common over here, this the only one I have seen. Apart from the roof hatch, gaurds, larger wheels, 4x4 conversion, they also had the standard British FV range airfilter: all else was standard Austin Commercial.
Drove quite well, I liked it a lot, although the chassis was a bit on the light side and had some obvious repair work done on it. This one was missing the actual mud guards.
Think Archie Marshall imported them into WA.
Rich.
