For years and years our southern brothers bitched and whined about Canada sending all the damned snow and cold weather down your way..but all along it was coming from the south to the north.. In Ottawa we had a beautiful sunny and 10-12C day .. Only had our first frost a day or two ago.. So now we know where the damned snow comes from....Washington..DC.. Mwhahahahahahaha..!! love the pix

Hi Alex
Other than a few very notable exceptions Washington, DC really doesn't get big snow storms, I grew in Washington, DC. I can not prove it but I believe big DC snow storms are limited to times Congress is not in session other wise the up draft of hot air prevents significant snow accumulations. Cheers Phil

Good day Phil,
When I heard of the white stuff dropping down there it struck me that you've had a year with several records for wet, both liquid and solid. It is good to see that the CMP is beating the modern stuff (i.e. half the age of the CMP). |

I Loved the photos of the CMP playing in the snow. You certainly have some beautiful scenery in your location. Now I know what you meant when you mentioned snow in your email. I am glad to be sitting in the sun today. ![]() Cheers Tony

Hi Jon
Yes I did have the pleasure of attending one evening when my father was the honored guest on his retirement from Navy Department as a civilian scientist. By the way there is a new web site for the Washington Marine Barracks http://www.marines.mil/unit/barracks/pages/welcome.aspx As a kid I would go watch the Marine, Navy, and Air Force marching bands practice on a field near our home. Once they closed Bowling Air Force base and Anacostia Naval Air Station as active fields the bands moved on to the run ways there. Particularly enjoyed it when the bag pipe units would practice. Cheers Phil

Oh dear... what a poor caption to a great image!
Cab 12, unit sign is 79 (not a 'Military Police vehicle Number 79'!) and the 'truck' in the background is a No.2 Breakdown lorry, doubtless come to recover the poor wee bogged Chev 4x2 ..... Mike C |

There was a official military ski school in Syria where AIF troops learnt to ski .
Seems like a huge anomoly but life is strange . And, look at whats going on in Syria as we speak . A despotic lunatic is in charge of the country , again. Mike
