The summer (1979) I taught Driving and Maintenance (D&M) on M38A1 CDN 2 and 3 Jeeps at the militia Armoury, another group of guys learned Comms in Valcartier. Three yrs before I had learned on C42 and PRC510 radios. These guys learned on RT524 and PRC25 radios. The first time I saw a PRC25 was at the Form Up Point when I met the guys who were going into an OP with me! The installation of new radios continued through 79 and 80. Within one training year we'd learned how crappy the C42s were and how much their performance was limiting our "tactical" abilities. We had 5/4 CPs with the aluminum shelving, which were model year 1976 or 77. I don't remember if we had C42s in them, but I do remember RT524s.

I had only heard of the IKEE term during my service. The TCCCs came out a year or two before I retired, so I did not pick up on the terminology then.
Is it possible IKEE was more of a EME term, while RAKs was a sig term? |

Jon,
IKEE was still a term used with the Iltis and Bison VRC-12 Installations. The Doc below references that the IKEE is installed by Maint Pers. I'm having a look around for the term RAK, but am coming up empty, VRC-12 and TCCCS.... |

Hmm,
Think I might have a definitive answer for you. The Doc below from 2002 regarding the TCCCS install into an Iltis refers to both IKEE and AKEE (Adaptor Kit, Electronic Eqpt), but no RAK. I'm thinking RAK is the older of the two (IKEE and RAK). |
