Nigel, that looks to have a Ford Thornton rear end as there is no tailshaft showing in the photo. The Thornton tailshaft went more parallel to the ground than the normal one.

I'll look it up again but it was a Demand for the SADF placed by the Ministry of Supply. From memory the County Commercial Cars Ltd conversion used a Thornton Tandem Axle Co., Detroit, rear conversion that used a Thornton transfer case in the four-rear wheel drive version. Ford at Dagenham added the conversions on the line. Both 6x2 and 6x4 [Surrey and Sussex conversions] drive was available. In advance of me looking it up I think it was a model EC098TFS.
