thanks for the information David. They will suit me perfectly as an interim measure . I just want to avoid any mud and rubbish getting thrown up inside the vehicle after I have painted it.

I followed this up with Ray who could manufacture me some plugs but to be honest, as he is in the US, it would be as well to make them up here in the UK. I remain pretty hopeful of trying to find some originals though. Please have a think if you know of any, it will finish off the restoration just right. thx

Andrew,
They look very similar to the bungs in a 45 gallon oil drum..............you don't think they might be the same size and thread ? Just a thought

you are right Richard. They do indeed look like 50 gallon drums stoppers but I doubt they are the same. Unfortunately they have a non standard thread, whcih is 2 5/8 - 24 UNF. Its worth trying but I am sure the thread on the drums would be much coarser. My simple assumption is that if each T16 has 8, and there were several thousand T16's with all the spares there must be a lot of these around somewhere. Anyway, the engineer has made a great job of the females, all I need is the males to fit into them.

thanks Stuart, a thought I have already mulled over. The onlky tricky thing here is that I would need to get these screw cut, as it is a non standard thread, and it would be trickly, although not impossible, to hold these in the lathe. You can perhaps understand my desire to try to find some plugs as NOS. Will take a look at the diameter of oil drum plugs, but I think they are about 2 inch whereas the thread size is 2 5/8. thanks Andrew
