The fan on them is symetrical (like a siren fan) most alternators have an asymetrical fan ( for example Bosch alternators often have 3 larger blades on one side, balanced by four smaller ones on the other) because of this they "sing" Maybe you have spent too long at the range, using "Bilsom" in your ears. I'm sure other ex eme mechs know what i'm talking about.

My hearing is not that bad, you originally described the generator as a "siren", would hardly say it is anything like that, the multiblade engine fan made more noise. Are you actually familiar with this particular CAV generator? Did not spend time on the ranges either.

Nope I've never heard a Generator No.10 scream, siren or whine, nor even the 100A Generator No.9.
I think my hearing's ok as I can hear the whine from my Generator No.2, but that's a gearbox issue not the design of the fan.

I have had a few 90A 24v FFR Landrovers and I have to say they have always purred quieter than my current 2009 VW Scirocco company car.......
I suspect a belt or bearing issue if they squeal or whine ???

why would you post on this forum about the land rover when you are in the UK.
While Richard and Clive hang out here a lot there are many other people who will help you and be interested if you posted on www.hmvf.co.uk which is crammed full of Brits. R |

I hope the revamp of this article may help those who are stuck trying to sort out problems in their 24v 90A system.
This is a major upgrade of the original article which now has 54 pages with 81 images. The entire project of research, writing, image manipulation and setting up the tests themselves is in the order of 400 hours work. So I hope it helps someone. http://www.hmvf.co.uk/pdf/ALL%20CHAR...4%20ver3-2.pdf
