Well there are two of yours in the collection, had to do some finishing work to clean them up, paint job and viola, look the part and don't worry about a $200 round walking off...

$200, try closer to 300-400. some people are going NUTS about them.

also due to the ATF the 2 in mortars were brought in by mistake and will never be allowed in again. the rounds also will not be mada again, the batch of 40 i had was it. the guy i had make them is now too old to make any more. so you are well within the ballpark in price if you count the fact that the mortar can be rebuilt.

good luck with the sale

I was going to say we have a very different market here in Canada, and that prices are a lot cheaper on 2" mortar stuff. But then I looked at collectors source and realized they are nearing the same.

I got my 2" mortar a decade back, sold as live by Kearns and McMurchy in Alberta. They only ran $400, and rounds have never been more than $20 or so. I even got a bunch for free from a scrap yard. I still don't have the crate....seems like I always just miss them.

Derk Derin and I fired a round off in the front yard a bunch of years back. Much louder than I expected, and it flew so far we never did find it. Luckily it was just a run of the mill para round.

Someone will be getting a bargain, and a unique item to display in a carrier. If anyone has the transit crate for the mortar they want to part with, let me know.

Rob..
Your neighbours must sleep well knowing there are a couple of old dudes telling lies and drinking beer next door and sending the odd mortar round out to places unknown from their beer drinking/BBQ pit/..
You better bring your buddy Derk down to our annual Rusty Old Truckers,(ROTter's)(Bob'sBBQ)BBQ/CMP/beer drinking/lie telling session in June where you talents are truly appreciated..
You neighbours then could sleep easy for a few days..Great story..obviously true ..too nutso to be a lie..

Fortunately I was rural then (still am, but not as much as before) and the nearest house was a kilometer away. Besides, we aren't that old.

People shouldn't worry about old age - it doesn't last long.

Being a mechanic for my short stint in the army, I never was around the mortars when they would be firing, so the report came as a bit of a surprise to me, especially from such a tiny 28 gauge ballistite cartridge.

We both put on M1 helmets, as we were not sure what was going to happen. As soon as the shock of the launch wore off, we both stood up to see where it was going to land. It was a beautiful clear day...not a cloud in the sky. Alas, we saw nothing. We spent close to 45 minutes looking for it too. As I mentioned, it was a run of the mill para round, and empty at that, other than the ballistite. The loss of the round was not that bad, but I didn't like losing the little end cap. Many of the rounds I have are missing that little item.

I think we both mentioned that it was too much fun to be legal, although if it is illegal, I haven't seen the section of the law that would encompass it. I guess the controlled goods might come into play, but really that act can cover just about anything. This certainly is not any kind of new technology.
