Two decades ago I went to a parachute weekend where there was a DC3 hired in as the main attraction. The aircrew had some interesting comments about their airplane. First of all the door size is the most important limiting factor. The C?? Commando has a bigger door and therefore is a better cargo plane. The DC3 has a small door and isn't very economical; the aircrew talked about smuggling stuff into Mexico. Anything that plugs into a wall was in demand there. When the DEA chased them out of south Texas they had to find ways to make a living.
