Thanks for your quick reply. I think the Swiss Army used the round canvas design so the rain or snow could easily just fall off by itself. If you look in this Swiss Blitz thread, all of them have the "round canvas design".

Hi Chis:
This may be "Urban Legend" but I have also read that the Swiss used the rounded canvas tops to be able to navigate the"Upside down "U" shaped" tunnels found on the roads in the Swiss Alps. Based on photos I have seen of the tunnels, especially the smaller ones, that appeared to be one way traffic at a time, that made sense to me. Bill
