I agree sounds like a ground problem to me as well. Had a simular problem with a car, starter run good connected to a battery out iof the car but wouldn't instaled. Even a new starter had the same problem. Turned out to be the bolt that bolts the negative lead from the battery to the frame of the vehicle. Could be a bad connection between the engine and the chassis ground strap.

Is the Motor free?. Has it leaked water into the bore, and stuck?

Pull the plugs and turn the motor over by hand before you go any farther!!

I'd go with Harry - plugs out and hand turn over. Water could have filled a cylinder from seeping through a crack and valves are closed so she's hydraulic.
Hope that's not the case at all. Regards Alex |

OK you Guys.
Bad earth. Took starter off cleaned and greased. The starter is the mechanic kind when you pull the starting lever it moves the dog back and engages with fly wheel. Put it back on today , cleaned all the earths. She started like a dream. Many thanks for the comments. Barry MKII |
