Default 1943 C8 Wireless ZL WTB

Gentlemen: Although I posted this in the restoration forum, I thought it wouldn't hurt to put it here. I am currently finishing off the the surviving prototype C8 ZL Wireless Repair. However I am in need of a bumper, hopefully original, to finalize the project. The unit is currently located in Manitoba, just outside of Winnipeg and will be shipped to Vancouver this spring. So if anybody out there has an really nice one, contact me at rob.mor@shaw.ca to arrange the purchace and shipping. Many thanks for your help.....Robert

Default C8A s/n 3844515289 1943

Original title: Prototype Mach-ZL 1943

Gentlemen: I need to put something to bed! I am interested to find out if there are any remaining Heavy Utility Machinery "ZL" C8A's out there! I mean, the real meal deal! I am in the process of delivery of mine, which I'm told is the only remaining survivor prototype. Chassis serial number 3844515289 with a rear mounted data plate Chrysler-NO MACH-ZL-1-068. Further information can be provided, if need be.

Many thanks for your help...Robert Morrison, Vancouver B.C.

Default Last I heard of one in NW US

Years (7+) ago I corresponded with someone in the NW US who had one that a restoration attempt had been made. But as far as it got was to dismantlement the truck and turn it into a basket case. The new owner of the disassembled HUM visited me on a trip to Boston and came up to see my HUP. I took him for a ride and let him drive mine trying to encourage him. I have some photos which I will try and find. Unfortunately our e-mails back and forth were on a computer that crashed so I don't have name or contact info. But I will look through my notes and see if I have a hard copy of anything with the pictures.

Cheers Phil

Default C8A Mach ZL-2

Phil,

Would you be thinking of Mark Coombs of San Diego? He has a Mach ZL-2, serial 3844536671, built May 11/44 on contract LV2611. It was pictured in W&T 44, p. 45 - actually Bart Vanderveen credited you for first reporting on it.

Mark came to Oshawa a few years ago and saw all the HUPs here that we could find to show him. I too have no direct contact with him recently and I don't think he is around on this Forum.

Hi Brian

That's the name now I have a chance of finding the information in my own filling system. Now I know I've been collecting stuff on CMPs when some one else has to tell me what I have.

Cheers Phil

Hello Morty,

Just to bring this to your attention, in this thread I have merged others to collect data on the C8A you now own in one place.

It has a list of known MACH-ZL2 serial numbers, these were all delivered under contract CDLV 2611, Oddly enough, yours was delivered under contract LV 1679. If yours is indeed (one of) the prototype(s), it may be an explanation that they pulled a regular HUP off the line for conversion.

After the conversion was approved, Chevrolet may have been given an separate contract for the MACH-ZL2. This is all conjecture and would need to be confirmed (or invalidated) by further research.

HTH,
Hanno

Thank you, Hanno!

Here are the oldest photos I have of the HUM. These were taken before the first restoration by Roy Wellburn in Williams Lake, BC.

I got the scan of the photo from the back from Colin Stevens, while the other photo came with the truck.

Here are some photos that were taken while the truck was in Williams Lake.

Here are photos of the truck in March 2019

I threw a reasonable bid to get things started, but since I did not reach the reserve, it only shows the base bid. Good luck on your sale...it is a nice truck

Shame you have decided to let her go after waiting all those years for it.

Default I knew I could count on you Rob.....

Thanks for the bid Rob. Yeah.....it was a long wait, but I hadn't counted on a heart condition card being thrown into the deck! That wasn't part of the deal!! Took it out for a few drives locally and no "BS".......if you want to stop traffic, this is the M'F'er that'll do it! Hope it goes to a good home. Robert

Default Well Rob....

Don't want to jinx the situation, especially on the restoration time!! Don't get me started! Ask Robbie Love.... There's a an old saying that "if you don't have your health....you don't have anything". As mentioned earlier, I've developed a serious heart condition, a "joker in the deck". I've made the decision to liquidate the hobby and downsize because it's just not possible with your heart operating at 30% capacity. It is with heavy heart (well that's a bad F'n pun) that it's all going on the block, but it is what it is. And if I can say quite seriously....the sudden, shocking, sad and untimely passing of Bob Moseley.... made me think very seriously about my decision. That's how quick life is! The next will be the C60L and the trailer and the rest of the bric a brac.....so stay tuned. I will keep you posted on the HUP after it closes on Ebay, but as of tonight....it's bags are packed and it's leaving the Canada. Cheers....Robert

Default For Sale C8A HUP ZL 1943

Gentlemen: Hope all is well. Again, due to health reasons, I am down sizing a lot. I have put my 1943 ZL on Milweb for sale. You can check it out there for the details. Again like the my 15 CWT currently up for grabs, all info and conversations will remain private and I ask that it be kept that way on the MLU forum. AND if a guy by the name of Andy from Ontario inquires..."Pound Salt in Siberia".
The unit was already privately sold, but after a long hard realty check(age) it was decided to pass. Serious offers only and if you have any questions or need any more photos, you can do so through Milweb.
Again....this is not to take anything away from this Forum, which is a supreme entity within itself.
Thanks for looking.....Robert

Oh... and PS to the uneducated masses....I had an email today, among many, from a fellow that was working on a "Frankenstein" 1955 GMC 4X4. Things were not going at all well so he thought he could possibly buy the ZL and torch the living "s---t" out of it to make it into a camper/caravan unit.
Out of courtesy to the management....I can not repeat on this forum what I said to him, where I told him to go and to save his money and go get an education!
Have a nice week R.
