Canada wins the Gold Medal in Ice Hockey
Not much to do with the military scene, but..........
As two year residents of Canada in the late 1970's Pat and I consider ourselves sort of adopted Canadians. And......of course, this Forum is based in Canada, so......... Congratulations, Canada on a well fought battle that was won cleanly and very professional fashion. Pat and I sang "Oh Canada" right along with the crowd when the medals were presented. Job well done. Bill

Jon???
Betty let you watch the game? You weren't drinking beer and cheering were you?? Reprobate.
My daughter (devoutly Canadian) is in North Carolina on a school trip where she watched the game with her American hosts. A few minutes ago she e-mailed me (on a purloined laptop) saying they may let her go home...about June. |

Outstanding game, and the Yanks deserved the win as much as we got it. My hats off to them, especially Miller!
Sally just called me on the cell from downtown and I could hardly hear her from the ruckus in the background... apparently all of Bloor & Yonge is jammed with flag-waving fans and even the cops are cheering. It's a good night for us.

Canada won another 13 gold medals, for a total of 14, the highest of any country at any winter games ever!

John, we here in the US have followed the "Declaration" that "Canada will Own the Podium" as have many other countries.
As stated earlier, Pat and I are adopted Canadians and we are very proud that Canada won the most Gold Medals in the history of the Winter Games. As a side note I watched the earlier portion of the game on the BBC feed and in their rankings, Canada was first due to winning the most Gold Medals. I think in retrospect, Canada did in fact "Own the Podium". Chimo, or however it is spelled. Bill

Olympics
Funny lot we Canadians. We mocked the "Own the Podium" group (a program to finance Olympic hopefuls) especially when we didn't get some of the gold medal we were 'owed'. Yet towards the end, it seems things worked out. I, personally, am PO'd that the Canadian woman's curling team didn't win gold. The skip was hot.

This is someone's response to all the critics of the Canadian Olympics. The British press has been particularly harsh.
Barry We don't "BRAG" "We're Canadians"............. So We're Not Perfect! We never claimed to be perfect, That means we’ve learned to be humble. We say excuse me and I'm sorry…as well as please and thanks, Even when its not our fault we apologize. Sure one arm of the torch didn't rise, But when the earthquake struck Haiti, Canadians raised their hands to say…”We’ll help.” And, there is a fence around the torch, But you can walk right up and shake hands with our Prime Minister and most famous Canadians. We put Gretzky in the back of a pick up, in the rain, not surrounded by police…and he was okay, And by the way... the great one is Canadian…and HE wasn’t complaining! We do have security at the games, but most people don't even have a gun they have to leave at home. The medals ARE under lock and key, but our doors and our hearts are open to the world. It has been pointed out that some buses broke down last week…they came up from California and couldn't handle our steep hills, but let’s not overlook the fact that our banking system didn't break down. We didn't get the "green ice maker" right this time…but we will, eventually, Just like we did when we invented the zamboni. Citius altius fortius If you don't reach higher how do you get faster and stronger? Was the first quad jump perfect? Should we not have given snowboarding to the world "in case" it didn’t take off? So big deal…one out of four torch arms didn't rise. Good thing we had three more! It’s called contingency planning! But remember…the Canada arm works every time in outer space…and insulin turned out to be a great thing. We couldn't change the weather, but maybe we can help to stop global warming. We don't have the tax base of the US or the power of the Chinese but, per capita, we ponied up for some pretty kick-ass venues in the worst global recession ever. Sure, some folks couldn't afford tickets, but our health care is universal. We have shown the world that we can raise our voices in celebration and song, but moments later stand in silence to respect a tragic event...together...spontaneously…and unrehearsed. What's more, we don't need permission from anyone to have a slam poet, fiddlers with piercings and a lesbian singer tell our story to the world while our multilingual female Haitian-born, black head of state shares a box with her first nations equals. We’ve shown the world that it doesn’t always rain in Vancouver, that you can strive for excellence, but not get hung up on perfection. Sure, it would be awesome to lead in the Olympic standings with the most medals or to have won more than we have so far. But what we have showed the world is our support and enthusiasm for our athletes who are doing their best. And we do it like true Canadians, with humble, polite pride. What's more we're finally starting to believe it!

When Crosby blew that chance for a goal on his breakaway in the third, I figured we were done as we really needed that 2 goal buffer. I knew that the Americans were going to tie it up if not beat us in regulation, you could just see it coming. The 4 on 4 overtime period heavily favoured the Americans with thier speed, so I suppose Crosby scoring the "golden goal" in OT was redemption enough. What a nail-biter and a great gold medal game! Lot's of hang-over's across Canada today I'll bet!

Bloody fantastic!!
I think there's one thing Aussies have in common with Canucks.....
We just love beating the Yanks......!!!! Absolutely stoked to hear about the Ice Hockey. Well done boys. Work on the Rugby at bit more......we will pull our finger out with the Ice Hockey, and then we'll get some serious banter going. I think we got a longer way to go with the Ice Hockey then you guys with Rugby though.....

Winning Gold
I have been humming the Hockey Game song for a week now. I am proud to be Canadian. There were no losers here. The U.S. gave it their all. How can winning the Silver be considered a loss.....
I know that when the chips are down..... our U.S. neighbours will back us up and I hope they see us in the same light. I just wish Australia had an ice hockey team so they could up north once in a while. I saw a sticker on a transport truck one day. It read Canada + U.S.A. Freinds Neighbours Family Yesturday, Today and Tomorow I suspect that inter unit rivalries are at a peak in the areas where the U.S. and Canada are fighting side by side. Maybe we can offer the Taliban and challenge. Hockey game: Taliban Vs Coalition . I would even put Don Cherry in the deal Guy |

National Treasure
Guy, No way. We need Don here at home to inject some realism into our milguetoast limpwristed liberal society. Just think, if he spoke a second language, he would have been PM years ago. You wanna proof? I offer Jean Chretian...keeping in mind a proof is a proof etc...http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EbaxSNh3KB4 What the hell were we thinking??
