Default WASP parts

The Canadian War Museum had a pallet with about three flamethrower "guns" in addition to their complete WASP which is on display. I am note sure of the model but believe they are vehicle mounted types. I took some photos. MAYBE they would agree to some sort of a trade for one? The CWM staff are still on strike I believe (December 2009) ...

Thank's Colin I contacted them and got a reply that they were having staff problems and would get back to me as soon as possible . I didn't think about them having a strike. That would be great if I could get some of these parts .

That reminds me. 20 odd years ago I took my Austin Tilly to a local tyre shop. There was and old guy there who used to sweep up and things. He immediately
recognized my 43rd Wessex markings as he had been in this unit during the invasion. He told me that he drove a flame thrower carrier. Nothing heroic! He followed the advancing troops at a distance. To the most part his sombre duty was to cremate dead Germans. He said they would squirt liquid onto a pile of bodies or through the windows of a house known to contain bodies before incinerating them. Gruesome story, but all part of war. Ron

The caption is misleading, as the photo is a still from the 1943 Canadian Army Overseas training film, "The Ronson Flamethrower ". Ronsons were never used in France, only Wasp IIs. Perhaps the censor was unwilling to release a photo of the Wasp or there were no shots of it available that looked so dramatic.

Link above is a wartime transportable flame thrower handbook that I currently have running on eBay. This is the flame weapon used on the WASP carriers. Lots of nice large format fold-out drawings of virtually everything associated.
