Hello Richard,
I would say 49,or early 50. It has the fishplate chassis only fitted up to mid 50. wide transom rear tub only fitted up to mid 50 narrow springs all round,as above. Bulkhead side lights. A later series 1 instrument panel has been grafted in. the front grille panel and guards are also later series 1. If you open the bonnet and look straight down onto the lefthand engine mount (chassis) there should be a number.on this vehicle it will start with R866 or R061. Hope this helps Justin.

I would guess 1952 or younger
1949 through to around 1951 had the bull or headlights behind the grille .The later series 1 were mounted in the grille I used to own a 1950 model with the bull lights behind the grille I will try and find a picture soon and post

Here is my old girl
Pleased to say it was sold to a passionate Land Rover enthusiast and has had a ground up restoration and is almost finished

I'm sorry Andrew and all others that like these...um...er vehicles but I'm afraid I have to admit that I see little to get excited about with them compared to a WW2 Dodge WC or a CMP or Ford/Chev MCP or a Wiles Cooker trailer or a mobile laundry or ....(and the list goes on into infinity!)

Thanks for the info guys, I will pass it on.
Cliff, thats a big can of worms in your hand, but I must admit that while owning Series II,III & a Defender over the years I have never been attracted to the Series I. So I find myself quite surprisingly impressed with this one, possibly because of the obvious attention and care that this vehicle has had over the years, generally think of them as being similar to Andrews old one, (not quite sure how that one escaped, as very little seems to LEAVE his yard.) Could be worse, we could be collecting stamps.... Rich
