Default a bit windy today

what cow of a day
the wind came up this morning and later in the day came the dust, some of the worst dust we've had for many years coming from the west.

Max Easter Sunday and Monday we got 5 inches of rain here at my place in Gympie. Other nearby areas got up to 9 inches in a few hours with flash flooding widespread around the whole area. One of two bridges linking Gympie across the Mary River is submerged and the river peaked last night at a little over 14 metres high, not quite enough to flood the old main Street and business centre.

Hi all - so far this year we have had 27mm. It is a tad dry.

When I drove into Sydney on Monday I had to drive through the heaviest rain I'd ever seen - something like 70mm in an hour. Flash flooding all over the place.

Here's Max pointing so you don't miss it in the distance. Dust storms seem to be less impressive on camera.

Default rain

The dust storm settled and now we've had the best autumn rain for years, having had over 100mm so far this month, the temp had dropped being only 8 degrees yesterday.

75mm in the last four days, 125mm for the month. The little creek past my house is flowing and I have one and a half tanks of rain water so I can stop carting water for a couple of weeks.

It's true! Going to Corowa last year on the back roads (Not scouting for old trucks, Officer!), I was stalked for 5km by a mini downpour that featured the odd zap of lightning. The pic didn't look anywhere as good as the real thing:

And to prove that back roads are never any use for finding anything of worth, all I found was this rusty Grain Trailer (which bears a resemblance to a C15A)! No chance of picking it up cheap, as it's likely to get a workout this year. The good rains are leading to forecasts of the best Winter grain crop in the past 5 years.

What a waste of tyres, not to mention chassis. Next thing to investigate would be a line of windbreak trees near the farm workshop.

Default What a waste

the old house tank was past it's use by date so the boys and I started to dismantle it. We have the roof off and half the panes unbolted (50 bots per join ).I have to dig down another 600 mm so the new tank will fit under the pipe but the rain is a bit early to fill it.
